Marlene Thomas

Marlene Hawthorne Thomas was born in Annapolis, Maryland and grew up between Colorado and the Washington D.C. area. She obtained her BS in Psychology from Howard University and is working toward her MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta.

Her photojournalistic style was honed as photographer and editor at the Hilltop newspaper in Washington DC. She was also the primary photographer for the National Council of La Raza.

Marlene’s photography has been exhibited nationally, including SCAD’s Silver and Ink exhibition, K2 Modern Art, the International Black DocuFest, at the Hammonds House and High Museums, the 12 12 Gallery in Richmond, Virginia and in alternative spaces at Atlantic Station. She has a miniature pinscher named Roosevelt Franklin who keeps her active and laughing.
